Description:

Mental Crosswind serves as a training tool for student pilots who find it challenging to quickly interpret wind announcements from air traffic control, particularly regarding crosswind assessments.

This application generates random wind configurations for selected runways, simulating announcements made by air traffic controllers. Users can engage in mental practice by visualizing and estimating the crosswind conditions before pressing the Display button to view both graphical representations and numerical values of the crosswind and direct wind components.

Usage Instructions:
<ul>
 <li>Press the Practice button to generate a wind announcement. Ensure your device's volume is active, as each press will yield a new wind configuration.</li>
 <li>Select the Wind Check button to replay the previous announcement for the same wind conditions.</li>
 <li>Click Display to visualize the wind graphically.</li>
 <li>If an airport has been selected, utilize the Refresh button for updated configurations.</li>
</ul>

The Settings page provides options to:
<ul>
 <li>Select whether the app initiates in Practice Mode (announcements only, no display), Analysis Mode (with display), or Last Used Mode (resuming from the previous exit point).</li>
 <li>Opt for using wind data from the METAR of a specified airport or from the nearest airport upon startup (location access is required).</li>
</ul>

It is important to note that this application is not designed for flight planning and should solely be used as a training aid.
